We offer 15 convenient Early Head Start, Head Start and Child Care locations throughout Northwest Ohio to serve children and families in the community. Mercer County Head Start invests in individualized, comprehensive services which champion school ready children and self-sufficient families. In fact, Esser has coached parents on how to speak to government officials, and several have testified on behalf of the program. Esser said since parents are children’s first teachers, Head Start encourages them to participate in the program in any way they can. There are two enrollment options: 3 ½ hours in the morning or afternoon Monday through Thursday or full days of over 6 hours. Benefits of the program include classroom experiences ranging from language and literacy to socialization speech, hearing, and vision screening other health services nutritious meals services for disabled children and family engagement. First priority is also given to to children whose families are at 100 percent of the poverty level. Children from homeless families or children in foster care are automatically accepted. ![]() A preschool program for disadvantaged children, Head Start works with 3-5 year olds.
